LAUNDRY SOAP
1 bar Zote soap
2 cups Borax
1 cup washing soda (AKA baking soda in the laundry isle)
Put 4 cups water in a pan and turn to medium low heat. Take the Zote soap and grate or cut very thin into the pan with the water. Stir frequently until the soap is dissolved. This took way longer than I thought.
When the soap is just about dissolved, fill a 5 gallon bucket HALF WAY with HOT "tap water.
When the soap is dissolved, pour it into the bucket with the hot water and stir to mix. Add Borax and Washing Soda. Mix well. Fill bucket with water until it is full. Stir. Put lid on loosely. Let it cool over night. In the morning, you should have a "jelly" like substance. I refill my old laundry soap bottles half full and then fill the remainder with water. I took a whisk and blended up the "jelly" so it would go through my funnel better. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil (optional) and shake bottle to mix.
Use 1/4 cup laundry soap per load.
I figure this will wash about 640 loads of laundry. I think my clothes are cleaner using this and it only costs 1-2 cents per load.
